What should you do after teeth whitening?

Whitening lifts stains and brightens your smile. These steps help limit sensitivity and protect your results, especially in the first two days.

Follow the White Diet

For the first 48 hours, avoid deeply colored foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, red wine, cola, and tomato sauce.

Choose Light Colored Foods

Stick to lighter foods like chicken, rice, pasta, and water while the teeth are most absorbent.

Avoid smoking and other tobacco, which stain quickly and undo your results.

Manage Sensitivity

Short lived sensitivity to cold is common. A sensitive teeth toothpaste helps and can be started a few days before whitening.

Use Lukewarm Water

Brush with lukewarm rather than very hot or cold water for the first day or two if your teeth feel sensitive.

Stay on Fluoride Toothpaste

Keep brushing twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste to strengthen enamel and ease sensitivity.

Sip Through a Straw

After the first two days, sipping staining drinks through a straw helps keep your results brighter for longer.

Keep Up Cleanings

Regular cleanings and good home care help your results last. Touch ups can refresh them over time.

What does teeth whitening aftercare look like?

Sensitivity is usually short lived, and the first two days matter most for your results. Here is what to expect.

First 48 hours
Teeth pick up stain most easily now, so follow a white diet and avoid deeply colored foods, drinks, and tobacco.
First few days
Any sensitivity to cold fades. A sensitive teeth toothpaste and lukewarm water help.
First week
You can return to your normal diet. Using a straw for staining drinks helps protect the results.
