Same-Day Emergency Extractions  ·  Open 7 Days

Tooth Extractions in Overland Park & Olathe

When a tooth can’t be saved, we make the process as simple and pain-free as possible. Simple, surgical, and wisdom tooth extractions performed same day when you need it most.

How does the process work?

Painless Tooth Extractions

From a single infected tooth to wisdom teeth, we handle every extraction at both locations, without the referral, without the wait.

Exam & X-Ray

Digital X-rays or CBCT imaging assess the tooth, roots, and surrounding bone. A treatment plan is confirmed with you before anything begins, no surprises.

Anesthesia & Extraction

Local anesthesia is applied until fully numb, you feel pressure, not pain. Nitrous oxide sedation is available for anxious patients. The tooth is then carefully removed, the site cleaned, and gauze placed to control bleeding.

Same-Day Replacement

For eligible patients, we can place a dental implant the same visit. We discuss all replacement options, implant, bridge, or partial denture, so you leave with a clear next step, not just a gap.

When Extraction Is Necessary

When Does a Tooth Need to Be Extracted?

At Albert Dental, we always look to save a tooth first, crowns, root canals, and other restorative treatments are explored before recommending extraction. But sometimes, removing a tooth is the right decision for your overall oral health, and we offer same-day emergency extractions with weekend availability at our Overland Park location.

Severe Decay or Infection

When too much tooth structure has been destroyed to restore.

Fracture Below Gum Line

Teeth broken below the gum line cannot be restored.

Wisdom Teeth

Partially erupted or causing crowding and infection.

Orthodontic Preparation

Crowded teeth may need extraction to create space for alignment.

Advanced Gum Disease

Bone loss from periodontal disease can make a tooth unsaveable.

Failed Root Canal

When retreatment isn’t viable and the tooth remains infected or fractured.

Need Your Wisdom Teeth Removed?

CBCT 3D Imaging Available

For more complex cases, we use CBCT 3D imaging to see exactly where the roots are before we start, adding precision where it matters most.

One or All Four

Depending on your case, we may remove one tooth or all four in a single visit, always your call after a full consultation.

No Referral Needed

Wisdom tooth extractions are performed at both locations, no referral required for most cases.

Wisdom teeth are the last molars to come in, usually in your late teens or early twenties. When there isn’t enough room for them to fully erupt, they can cause crowding, infection, and pressure on neighboring teeth. Removing them early prevents those problems from developing.

At Albert Dental, we perform wisdom tooth extractions at both our Overland Park and Olathe locations. Whether you need one tooth removed or all four, we’ll walk you through the plan at your consultation. The number of teeth removed in a single visit depends on your specific situation.

Comfort Options

Nervous About
Your Extraction?

Dental anxiety is one of the most common reasons patients delay treatment they need. At Albert Dental, we offer nitrous oxide sedation at both locations so you stay relaxed throughout your procedure.

Inhaled through a small mask, it takes effect within minutes, producing a relaxed, calm feeling while keeping you fully conscious. Wears off quickly so most patients drive themselves home.

Available at Both Locations

Nitrous oxide is available at our Overland Park and Olathe offices. Just let us know at booking, no additional steps required.

Why Patients Choose Sedation
Reduces Anxiety Completely

Patients who avoided the dentist for years complete their extraction comfortably with nitrous. The procedure that felt impossible becomes manageable.

No Recovery Time Needed

Nitrous oxide clears your system within minutes of the mask being removed. Most patients drive themselves home and return to normal activities the same day.

Works Alongside Local Anesthesia

Nitrous is used with local anesthesia, so you feel nothing and remain calm throughout. Two layers of comfort working together.

Safe for Most Patients

Nitrous oxide has one of the longest safety records in dentistry. Our team will confirm it’s the right option for you at your appointment.

Post-Extraction Instructions

Just got a tooth pulled? Follow these guidelines after your procedure to heal properly and avoid complications. Call us with any concerns.

Bite on Gauze

Keep firm pressure on the gauze for 30 to 45 minutes. Replace if needed. Some bleeding is normal for the first few hours.

Ice for Swelling

Apply ice packs to the outside of your face for 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off during the first 24 hours.

No Straws or Smoking

Avoid straws, smoking, and spitting for 48 hours. Suction can dislodge the blood clot and cause dry socket.

Eat Soft Foods

Stick to soft foods for the first few days, yogurt, soup, mashed potatoes. Avoid chewing on the extraction side.

Take Medication as Directed

Take any prescribed medications as directed. Over-the-counter ibuprofen can help manage discomfort.

Gentle Oral Hygiene

Brush carefully, avoiding the extraction site for the first 24 hours. After that, rinse gently with warm salt water.

Rest & Limit Activity

Rest for the remainder of the day. Avoid strenuous activity for 24 to 48 hours as it can increase bleeding and swelling.

Watch for Dry Socket

Worsening pain after day 3 may indicate dry socket. Call Albert Dental immediately, (913) 948-9488 or (913) 247-1315.

What is the difference between a simple and surgical extraction?

A simple extraction removes a fully erupted tooth visible above the gum line, no incision needed, typically 10 to 20 minutes. A surgical extraction requires an incision to remove a tooth broken below the gum line, impacted, or not fully erupted, used for most wisdom teeth. Both are performed at Albert Dental in Overland Park and Olathe. Call (913) 948-9488 or (913) 247-1315.

How long is recovery after a tooth extraction?

Simple extractions at Albert Dental heal in 3 to 5 days. Surgical extractions and wisdom tooth removals take 7 to 10 days for initial soft tissue healing; full bone remodeling takes 3 to 6 months. The first 48 hours are most critical, avoiding straws, smoking, and forceful spitting prevents dry socket. Detailed aftercare is provided at both Overland Park and Olathe. What is dry socket and how do I avoid it?

Dry socket (alveolar osteitis) occurs when the protective blood clot at the extraction site dislodges or dissolves before healing, exposing bone and nerves. It affects roughly 2 to 5% of extractions and 20 to 30% of lower wisdom tooth removals. Avoid straws, smoking, and forceful spitting for 48 hours. Call (913) 948-9488 or (913) 247-1315 to verify your specific coverage before your appointment.

What happens if I don’t replace the extracted tooth?

Without replacement, adjacent teeth drift into the gap within months, the opposing tooth over-erupts, the jawbone resorbs under the missing tooth, and bite alignment shifts, causing accelerated wear. Albert Dental in Overland Park and Olathe discusses implants, bridges, and dentures at your extraction appointment so you always leave with a plan. Call (913) 948-9488 or (913) 247-1315.
